Patient Leaflet

Living Well After a Diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation

Three-page A4 patient leaflet.

This is a self-directed patient leaflet for adults who are newly diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. It draws on my cardiology nursing background to explain the condition, its symptoms, treatment options, and anticoagulant safety in plain, reassuring language.

This piece was scoped deliberately as a post-diagnosis guide. It covers what AF is, how it can affect daily life, the medicines and procedures a patient may be offered, how to take anticoagulants safely, and when to get medical help (including stroke warning signs framed around the nationally recognised FAST message).

I have kept the guidance non-prescriptive and shared-decision-friendly, and applied plain-language and accessibility principles as well as signposting to trusted UK support.

Outcome: A clinically accurate, comprehensive AF leaflet written at a US grade 7 reading level (Flesch Reading Ease 66).
