Plain Language Summary [Paediatric, Child-Facing Companion Version]

This is a self-directed sample where I reworked a publicly available plain language summary of a Phase 3 paediatric clinical trial (systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis) into a child-facing companion version for readers aged roughly 7–12 and their caregivers.

Working from the sponsor's results summary, I re-planned the structure around the questions a child would ask, rewrote the content to a target reading age, applied health-literacy principles, and designed supporting visuals. Throughout, I reported the findings honestly, presenting a null result plainly, and holding fair balance on safety rather than being over-reassuring.

Outcome: Reduced the estimated reading level from approximately US grade 10 to grade 5 (Flesch-Kincaid), with Flesch Reading Ease improving from 55 to 79, while preserving the study's key messages, including the null result and a balanced account of safety.
